New songs are being added, and comments encouraged here

I’m enjoying working on more songs now after taking a break. I try to avoid straying too far from literal translations unless that seems necessary to do a good job conveying the meaning. It’s a challenge to make things as clear as possible, while putting it in readable chunks that are timed well to the song--but it’s often easy to improve on anything that's already available. Everyone here is encouraged to make comments and suggest changes or corrections (even if you’re just learning English or another language). I continue to edit, correct, and improve all the captions, so please share any thoughts you have. I’ll also be using some higher definition sources now that may take longer to load; let me know if you have any difficulties, or prefer higher-quality or faster-loading.

Na Raindee Hai by Arieb Azhar

A clever choice for the opening song, declaring "what's about to be spoken must be said." Broadcast June 6, 2010. In Punjabi with English translation.

Sereia (Mermaid) by Suba

Sereia is a Brazilian song by the pioneering Serbian-born electronic musician Suba (Mitar Subotic), who died in 1999 trying to rescue recordings from a fire as he was reaching the peak of his career. The word for mermaid in many languages comes from the Greek word for siren. The video shows rival jungle tribes preparing huge robots for combat; but when they meet, the result is unexpected. In Portuguese with English translation.

Jal Pari (Mermaid) by Atif Aslam

Jal Pari by Atif Aslam is a great song; it sounds like a catchy pop song about mermaids as sirens of the sea, or a love song, and is essentially a spiritual song. But even if you were cynical, unromantic, and an atheist; you still might enjoy it as a story about the obsessive nature of love or superstition. Near the end, the song segues into a rendition of Tu Mera Dil Tu Meri Jaan previously recorded by Nasrat Fateh Ali Khan (thanks to Ricky Singh for pointing that out and translating it). From Coke Studio (Season 2, Episode 1, broadcast June 14, 2009). In Punjabi with English translation.

Free downloads are available on the Coke Studio website.
